When To Repair Your Garage Door

Usually, it will be pretty easy to tell when your garage door is in need of repair. It may not open or close correctly or when you do open or close it, it is not very smooth. If opening and closing is difficult, it is a sign that there is something wrong. There will be times when by visual inspection you will be able to tell that something is not right. Regardless of how you discover it, when you find the problem, it is time to think about repair.

It Will Not Open

As you return home from work, you keep hitting your opener and nothing happens. It is a frustrating experience, especially since most homeowners know very little about how their doors operate. The first thing you should check is to make sure that your opener’s batteries are functioning properly and are not dead. You should also check to make sure that your remote control is communicating with the opening device inside the garage. Sometimes, a simple re-programming will do the trick. If your door still does not open, you may have a more serious problem.

Checking It Out

A properly functioning garage door is one that opens and closes smoothly and quietly. If it does not open or close and it is not the opening system, you may have a problem with the garage door springs. You can check this by operating the device manually. You should see a cord attached to the trolley system that opens and closes the door. Pulling it will disconnect the opener so that you may open and close the door by yourself. If the action is not smooth, then you may have a problem with one of the springs. They may be out of balance.

Visual Inspection

It pays to do some simple maintenance which would include a visual inspection of your garage door. Look at the door itself and the mechanics of the system. If there is physical damage to the door, you will need to take care of it. Examining the springs and cables is important also. When something does not look right, garage door repair may be necessary.
